The African Wilderness Safari
This safari takes us to the best wilderness areas in two
countries without all the frills and the added expense. We
begin the safari in South Africa and after leaving the
modern city of Johannesburg far behind we arrive in the
world famous Kruger National Park. As with my other safaris
we actually spend our time inside the park exploring its
natural beauty and diverse wildlife. Most companies
misleadingly offer a stay in Kruger but in fact you are only
in private reserves adjacent to the park. By staying inside
Kruger and visiting its incredible array of natural wonders
and wildlife you get the very best this huge wilderness area
has to offer, without the exorbitant price tag. On our
return journey to Johannesburg we break our trip for an
overnight stay in the picture perfect village of Dullstroom.
If time permits we will even have a chance to view the
fabulous Blyde River Canyon and surrounding area.
Our next stop on this wilderness adventure, are the mystical
Matobo Hills in Matabeleland, Zimbabwe.
This World Heritage listed site is visually stunning and offers some of the most
impressive and unique photo opportunities to be found in
Africa. Apart from being home to one of the largest
concentrations of leopard in Africa, The Matobo Hills are
also rich in archaeological sites of diverse cultures dating
back to the San people. After exploring this magical area we
head to Hwange National Park home to vast herds of wild game
and in particular The Big Five lion, leopard, elephant,
rhino and buffalo. Apart from the obvious attraction of these legendary
animals we also have the chance to see lesser known and
unique creatures such as the sable and roan antelope and
even cheetah. Time will pass all too quickly here but our
next destination is just as exciting but for other reasons.
We now head to Victoria Falls where the mighty Zambezi River
plummets 180 metres into Batoka Gorge and creates the
largest continual curtain of falling water in the world. No
wonder this is a World Heritage listed site! After being
stunned by the enormity and grandeur of The Falls you can
then participate in some of the diverse and varied
activities on offer that make this area the fun and
adventure capital of Africa. We have three days here but it
will all pass too quickly. Even so, you will have cherished
and unforgettable memories to take home of a true African
wilderness safari.
